How Steam Fees Work
When you sell an item on the Steam Community Market, Steam collects fees totalling 15% of what you receive (not 15% of the listing price) — split into two parts:
Goes directly to Steam
Goes to the game publisher (CS2, Dota 2, Rust)
Important: Steam fees are calculated using the formula:
Amount Received = Listing Price ÷ 1.15
Because the 15% fee is applied to what you receive (not what the buyer pays), you divide by 1.15 — not subtract 15%. This means you effectively keep ~86.96% of the listing price. For very low prices, a minimum fee of $0.01 per fee type ($0.02 total) applies.
Quick Reference (USD)
| Item Price | Valve Fee | Game Fee | You Get |
|---|---|---|---|
| $1.00 | $0.04 | $0.09 | $0.86 |
| $10.00 | $0.43 | $0.87 | $8.69 |
| $50.00 | $2.17 | $4.35 | $43.47 |
| $100.00 | $4.35 | $8.70 | $86.96 |
Minimum Fee Threshold
For very cheap items, each fee (Valve + Game) has a floor of $0.01, so the minimum total deduction is $0.02. The formula remains Price ÷ 1.15 for normal prices — the minimum only kicks in when 5% or 10% of the received amount would fall below $0.01.
Steam Wallet Withdrawal
Steam Wallet funds are non-transferable. Traders often use CS2 skins or TF2 keys to trade for real money on third-party sites. Always account for the ~13% effective fee on listing price (15% of received amount) when planning trades.
